Siliphos is an effective phosphate and silicate metal removal product, based on iron hydroxide, suitable for fresh and salt water aquariums.
The liquid granular material has an extremely high absorption capacity and reliably solves algae problems associated with phosphates and silicates. Suitable for all filter models. Siliphos is a fine-grained compound that has been successfully used by water suppliers and water industries, in freshwater and wastewater treatment plants for several years. Its highly active chemical ability to absorb phosphate in large quantities makes it an ideal filter for aquariums. In aquariums, phosphates develop from decomposed organic matter and also as a result of overfeeding, fertilisers or ornaments containing phosphates. Phosphates can also enter our aquarium by adding water from the tap. Phosphates are an essential element of living organisms, but harmful in high concentrations.
In marine waters, high levels of phosphates inhibit calcium formation by hard corals and calcareous algae. Due to the elevated nutrient levels, zoocarbon compounds of corals of animal origin can proliferate to the extent that they cover the natural pigments of corals. The corals turn brown. Another indication of high phosphate and silicate levels is the development of red or brown algae that often form a coating in the aquarium. A PO4 level greater than 0.1 mg/l may not be tolerable in a modern coral reef aquarium.
In freshwater aquariums, the maximum level should be around 0.3 mg/l. Elevated phosphate levels are often responsible for algae growth, poor plant growth and contaminated fish.
