Training your dog to respond to the whistle is a simple process of associating the sound with a reward (snack). First, familiarize your dog with the sound of the whistle and then immediately give a treat, no need to sit or do anything else. To reward your dog use high-value treats (removed from their daily diet) or another incentive, such as a reward game. It is best to use a specific command to recall, not just your dog's name, so that your dog clearly associates the word with returning to you. A whistle can be useful, especially if your dog is being walked by different people as well as to hear it from a greater distance.
